The throaty roar of an inline-four, the swish of a chequered flag, the camaraderie of riding together, and the legends and their greatest hits.

Hello Valencia

I have written this post several times over the past few weeks. In most cases, every version of this article has been trashed. I could say it was because I didn’t want to jinx anything. But, I think it had more to do with the fact that I still found it hard to believe – dreams do come true. Even now, sitting here in Valencia, I do on occasion pinch myself, just so I know I am not dreaming.

In May this year, I wrote an article on Joan Lascorz, the SBK Kawasaki racer. It was an article I struggled to write, but in so many ways, it wrote itself. I submitted Speed and Strength for Eni’s Energy for Success 2012 award. It has won the award in the ‘under 36’ category. And now I am here, in Valencia, for the final race of the season, and more importantly, to receive the award.

It is without doubt an incredible honour. Eni is a prominent multinational that has a strong presence in the world of motorcycle racing. It has constituted the awards and Italo Cucci chaired the commission. Eni has chosen the award winners in its sole discretion. The ceremony will take place tomorrow, November 10, at Valencia on the eve of the final race of the season.

The other awards are:

Best newspaper article: Paolo Gozzi

Best essay on journalism Francesco Talanti

Best Cinematography: Jarno Zaffelli

You can read the article I wrote on Joan Lascorz here.

P.S. The forecast suggests a rainy day on track and as I sat at a café this evening, the heavens opened and it poured. Remember the last time it rained this season? Here’s to a safe and a superb finale to the season.

  1. Big, big, big congratulations Chitra!
Did you actually get an award that looked like the gold ones on their site? They looked pretty awesome!
Hope you enjoy the races and the rain in Spain!

    • Thank you 🙂 Your encouragement has meant so much to me. The award was pretty phenomenal and very pretty. Can’t wait for race day tomorrow. Though, it’s hard to believe that there’s just one more day left before it’s back to reality.

  2. I remember the story well, it was well written on a touching subject and deserves more recognition.
Know what you mean about back to reality, writing the reports for crash.net for Moto2 and Moto3 has been a privilege, it’s interesting to have something you wrote changed a little occasionally to fit the site or added to if events change and then be sent out to the masses for scrutiny. Will miss it a lot and hope to do it again next season as it has been not only a great experience, but fun too.

I would be waaay jealous as you are not only in Spain but at a race, but i’ve seen the weather forecast, hope you are in a stand, looks wet!
    Congratulations once again! Enjoy!
